Stewart Martin took his first photographs in elementary school, using a Kodak Brownie given to him by his father. He shot everything in his Long Island neighborhood – birch trees, summer clouds, family pets. For the last 35 years, he’s kept it up. As a professional photographer, Stewart has photographed Hollywood celebrities and New York street people, Vermont country roads and England's city streets.
Stewart attended the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and began to hone his unreconstructed, photojournalistic style.
Stewart has worked in several prestigious printing labs in New York, primarily learning custom printing techniques directly from Chuck Kelton of Kelton Labs and Sid Kaplan of New York City.
Currently, Stewart lives and works in Providence RI, where he teaches printing at the arts collective AS220, runs a custom black and white printing business, and takes on a variety of commercial assignments, including event and portrait photography.
